Who buys NZ naturally produced Honey
Want to know which
country import the most NZ naturally produced
honey. Believe it or not, it is the United
Kingdom. UK imports a whopping 2015 tonnes of
naturally produced honey from New Zealand
Singapore comes in at 5th place after Hong Kong importing about 11% of New Zealand honey exports. The volume did however spike in 2012, jumping a huge 30%. Perhaps this is because consumers are beginning to realise the potential health benefits of honey and retailers are jumping on the bandwagon to make a quick buck.
What is most interesting is that New Zealanders, one of the top producers of quality manuka honey consumes close to 40% of the natural honey they produced. Find attached a graph showing that honey consumption by New Zealanders have been pretty much steady at over 5000 tonnes per annum.
So in real terms, Singapore only imports about 5% of all the honey produced in New Zealand around 800 tonnes per annum. In comparison New Zealanders consumes over 5000 tonnes per annum. New Zealand is one of the top producers of manuka honey. All the expertise, talent and know-how of producing and consuming honey should exist in New Zealand. This begs an interesting question. Wouldn't you want to consume the same brands of manuka honey as those you can get in New Zealand?
